Red Apple Transit Driver


Capacity Builders, Inc. has a contract with the City of Farmington for providing public transit transportation, aka Red Apple Transit. The Driver position is responsible for providing public transit transportation and for providing Non-Emergency Medical Transportation. These services are to be provided in a safe and reliable manner while ensuring the customers receive the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism. Position is offered the opportunity to become a member of a transportation union.

Position Requirements

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation to customers.

  • Demonstrate excellent defensive driving skills.

  • Operate public transportation bus and non-emergency medical vehicle efficiently. 

  • Inform management of any concerns regarding any vehicle’s mechanical operation.

  • Follow protocol for reporting accidents and handling the accident for the safety of customers during and after the accident.  

  • Follow protocol for reporting any incidents involving customers, the public, or other matters as required.

  • Provide excellent customer service to clients and customers, including answering questions about schedules, routes, and transfer points.

  • Must assist with passenger loading and unloading from vehicle, while following safety protocols.

  • Must assist with any mobility device and secure as required by safety protocols.

  • Ensure on-time pick-up and drop-off of customers.

  • Demonstrates understanding and sensitivity of needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities.

  • Demonstrates familiarity with the main roadways and major highways in the service areas.

  • Must understand and comply with highway traffic signs, signals, maps, manifests, and schedules. Obey traffic laws.

  • Adjust route to avoid heavy traffic, weather conditions, unsafe road conditions, and road construction, as needed; report same to dispatch. 

  • Complete thorough vehicle pre-trip, post-trip, and DVI inspections as required.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of FTA and DOT regulations.

  • Read, understand, comply with and apply policies and procedures in official Drivers’ Manual.

  • Complete paperwork as required and in a timely manner.

  • Attend union and staff meetings and trainings as requested. 

  • Utilize tablets or electronic device as required.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

  • Must be 18 years old or older.

  • Possess valid authorization to work in the United States.

  • Must have driving experience.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background and department of motor vehicle background check.

  • Possession of a current Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record; Class B CDL with P endorsement. 

  • No suspensions, DUI’s, or more than 1 driving citation in the past 5 years.

  • Must be able to pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for long periods of time. 

  • Walk-up and down steps into and out of bus. 

  • Use of computer, keyboard and monitor is necessary. 

  • Must be able to lift and carry approximately 15 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  In addition, vision abilities include close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.

  • Must be able to speak English and listen, hearing sound and spoken words.
