NPS Crew Member
The NPS Crew Member will provide meaningful work around natural park restoration, conservation, construction, or rehabilitation of natural, cultural, historic, archaeological, recreational, or scenic resources. The work conducted is a result of a partnership between CBI and the NPS with the goals and projects set forth by the NPS. This position includes on-the-job-training and self-development sessions.
Essential Duties:
1. Perform all tasks as directed by the Project Director and their designed leader(s), and make changes as directed.
2. Read, understand, and apply all safety guidance, materials, and training.
3. While working must wear appropriate safety gear and clothing, keeping in mind the work projects of the day, weather, and land conditions.
4. Utilize appropriate tools to perform duties as trained and directed.
5. Immediately notify crew leader(s) and/or Project Director of any injuries to self or others, as per the safety training and CBI Policies and Procedures.
a. Apply First Aid, CPR, and/or other assistance as trained.
6. Participate in work training sessions and hands on instruction by crew leaders; apply training information to work behaviors and skill development.
7. Participate in career development training and activities.
8. Read, listen to presentations, and understand the general purpose of the projects and their importance to the National Park Service, as well as to the affiliated Native American Tribes and their culture.
9. Maintain daily work log as directed; notify crew leader(s) and Project Director of successes and challenges in completing tasks assigned.
10. Duties may include all or some of the following, as well as other activities:
a. clearing paths,
b. moving objects,
c. repairing wood objects and/or fencing,
d. working with rope,
e. sanding wood,
f. applying stain and/or sealant to wood,
g. painting,
h. drawing simple plans,
i. measuring,
j. removing brush,
k. demolishing a structure,
l. moving dirt,
m. putting wood together to form a structure, and
n. mixing and pouring cement, plaster, or other liquid materials.
11. Camp at work site or nearby site if directed, and perform housekeeping, cooking, and other duties as directed.
12. Report any safety, work condition concerns, and environmental concerns to supervisor.
13. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Proof of citizenship or national of the U.S.
High School Diploma or GED
Be between the age of 18 to 27 years old as per NPS requirements
Pass a Federal Background check as required by NPS and CBI
Pass a Drug and alcohol test at hiring and pass random testing during employment.
Possession of a current Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record as required by CBI and NPS.
Cannot be a Civil Service Federal employee in application process or during the seasonal work period as per the NPS requirements.
Must have reliable transportation to travel to work sites and other designated regional locations, including to Farmington, NM if needed, unless CBI is providing transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing, bending, stooping, holding, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
Grasping and holding tools and materials involved in maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation of land and fixtures.
Ability to work outside in various weather conditions, such as heat, wind, and rain.
Use of computer, keyboard, and monitor, if necessary.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Close visual acuity to performance activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
Must be able to speak English and listen, hearing sound, and spoken words.
