Prevention Educator


General Responsibilities 

  • The Prevention Educator is responsible for delivering the Wyman TOP and other curriculum to youth and young adults in schools and other settings.

Essential Duties

  • 1. Review, learn, and present Wyman and other curriculum as required to youth participating in a grant funded program. Ensure that any fidelity and approved curriculum requirements are maintained.  

  • Participate in Wyman and other curriculum presenter education and certification process.  

  • Review and have a good understanding all funder and CBI documents that pertain to an awarded grant in relation to providing the curriculum, such as the Notice of Award, approved grant application and budget, amendments, MOU’s, curriculum chosen/approved, and contracts with participating schools, and collaborating organizations.  

  • Ensure that students, guardians, and/or school sign all required permission and participation documents. Retain copies. 

  • Create, review, and/or obtain approval for all student/staff evaluation tools, such as pre and post surveys. Distribute, collect, and provide same to CBI Project Director.  

  • Retain all original copies of pertinent records, information, documents, including on SharePoint.  

  • Ensure that confidentiality of students is maintained.  

  • Work with Project Coordinator, school staff, and youth organization staff to schedule and coordinate dates, times, and locations of presentations.

  • Collaborate with community leaders and organizations in assisting students and partnering with organizations staff in developing outside activities for required community service/volunteer opportunities for participants.   

  • Provide to the Project Director and/or input as directed by the funder’s online system data, documents, data, and information for monthly in-house progress reports, and funder required progress reports. Review and/or draft reports as requested.  

  • Provide input and information to Project Director and leadership regarding quality assurance, resolving problems, and potential program improvements.  

  • Serve as a liaison that promotes trust with students, parents, guardians, school staff, community leaders, CBI, and other stakeholders through email, phone calls, video meetings, personal interaction, and meetings in person.  

  • Be part of the team or directly provide community and/or parent education workshops or educational digital/hard copy information.  

  • Collaborates with clients, families, and providers to assist in recommending referrals to other services as may be required or needed.  

  • May participate in the CBI Breakfast of Champions team regarding sustainability, potential grant opportunities, and grant program applications.  

  • Participate in staff meetings and training as required.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Education/Certification/Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma. 

  • An associate degree or attending college in education, child development, psychology, social work, counseling, public health, or a related field preferred. 

  • Currently hold or obtain Wyman and other curriculum certification(s).  

  • Experience with public speaking, making oral presentations, or teaching is a plus.  

  • Knowledge of Native American or specifically Navajo traditions and culture a plus.  

  • Experience working with youth and/or students.  

  • Experience drafting reports and collecting data is a plus.  

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and/or speaking both Navajo and English language a plus.  

  • Possess valid authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Ability to pass a background check.  

  • Possession of a current Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record. 

  • Experience and skills in the use of general office equipment, including calculators, copy machines, printers, and computers.  

  • Experience and skill in using video conference calls and presentations, such as Zoom, as well as Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for extended periods of time is important.  

  • Ability to stand during length of educational presentations.  

  • The use of a computer, keyboard, and monitor is necessary.  

  • Must be able to lift and carry approximately 15 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Close visual acuity to performance activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.   

  • Must be able to speak English and listen, hearing sound and spoken words.
